Roy Calloway and his wife owned and operated Calloway's Restaurant, which was located next to the Gaither Theater, beside the 355 bridge, from 1935 to 1945. In 1945 they built Calloway's Restaurant & Cabins at the corner of O'denhal and Route 240 (now Frederick Avenue). They sold the place in 1960.

Bob Shreffler 5/19/10 As I recall George Hunt bought 'Calloways' and operated for a few years. Then George aquired Melody Inn when I was forced to foreclose my mortgage on the people I had sold to (1963).
mitch gardner 6/10/13 In the early 60's it was called the Gaithersburg Inn.
Nog 9/11/13 This used to be a Roy Rogers. This is where we went to to skip school and smoke weed in the late 1980s. The Fixins bar was great. I miss the old Roy Rogers.
Bill Calloway 1/27/14 Nice to see another picture of my grand dads place. I have an old post card picture of the restaurant & cabins.
Tom Twigg 11/30/14 My grandfather used to take me on his tractor behind the restaurant. I missed my grandfather
Joan Baker Hawkins 1/15/15 I went to work for Leona in 1958, worked for her until they sold the restaurant . My sister Patsy also worked there. Mrs. Calloway is still living in Frederick.
Lynn Ballinger Anstine 3/15/15 My father went to Calloway's in the 50's. We met the Calloway's little girl named, Penney. I thought she was so cute!
Connie Shepherd Gray 9/29/15 I'd love to find Penny. She was one of my very best friends. Always fun overnights. Penny's mom made sure she got to go to see the Beatles in DC in 1963 I believe. She was the envy of all!
Chrissy Mullens 9/30/15 I have never seen this photo of my great grandfather's place. It's really cool.
Carol Dove Kline 11/22/15 The Calloways lived off Clopper Road in the 60s just passed Longdraft Road. Penney Calloway was my friend and I spent some time at her home with her Mom who was a very gracious lady. Penney went with me and my family to Beverly Beach one during that period and I have good memories of her. I would like to find her too just to say hello.
Paula Fink Drew 2/24/16 I miss Penny. We were best friends during our Junior High years. After skating at the roller rink, we would go to Gaithersburg Inn to wait for our ride home. Unfortunately Penny died about 20 years ago. We were looking forward to reconnecting at one of our class reunions. We were unable to do that.
Lynn Ballinger Anstine 3/16/16 The Calloways lived in a "new" house in a "new" subdivision built when I lived on Clopper Rd. Our home was acquired by eminent domain for the park ranger of Seneca Park. As I recall, Penny was an only child and had everything. I just remember she was so cute and her parents adored her.
Brenda Calloway Butt 1/26/19 For those asking about Penny Calloway, she was my Aunt even though we were only 9months apart in age. My Dad, Roy Calloway Jr was her half brother by Granddad Calloway. Penny passed away June 26, 2008, while living in Florida. My Dad just passed away in 2016, only Aunt Thelma and Aunt Dorothy are the only siblings left.
Sandy Calloway 2/13/19 I lovingly remember Uncle Roy, Aunt Leona, Penny, Dot, Thelma, Roy Jr, Alice, Ricki, and Brenda. As a child, my family traveled many times from High Point NC to Gaithersburg to visit. Hi to all my sweet relatives in that area.
